I am in the US and have been using the ATI HDTV Wonder and DVICO's FusionHDTV7 dual express for more than a year and once the firmware is in the firmware folder it just works. The "HDTV Wonder" was one of the first HDTV tuners and the card shows its age because the components use up all the space on a PCI card allows. "Fusion HDTV7 dual express" is a half-height card that is very small indeed and can record 2 shows at once, in HDTV)

Hi All, I am confused by the DVD Installation Instructions. It advises:

...Upon DVD boot, select LinuxMCE install(it is the bottom option). This will install a regular Kubuntu 810 system, with an additional button on the desktop to install LinuxMCE upon restart.
Let Kubuntu's install run through, and after restart, login. Open a terminal and run

sudo su - #This might ask for the password you specified earlier during the install of kubuntu.
apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
..."

But then at the bottom of the page it says:
Note: You should NOT run apt-get dist-upgrade after the initial install, as it can cause several problems, including having different kernel versions on your core and media directors, and the installation of new Kubuntu packages that can break some features! .."

Am I missing something obvious or does this contradict itself? I did the
"sudo su - #This might ask for the password you specified earlier during the install of kubuntu.

Have I now busted something and should reinstall?

:I too have the same question. After spending quite some time updating Kubuntu, I read that note. Can someone clarify this?

::This is confusing me, too. We shall add all available Kubuntu updates before installing MCE, but NOT afterwards? This doesn't make much sense. What if a new Kubuntu updates breaks MCE, preventing the correct installation? Wouldn't it have been better to start with a defined version of Kubuntu as a base for the installation? :Tried internet installation instead. New interesting error messages: "Package Pluto Orbiter failed". Great. Folks, withall respect for your hard work, and for what you've accomplished so far, but could you pls focus on the installation problems of 8.10 before adding new gimmicks or correcting minor bugs? ::Installer says something about a dependency problem because "pluto-avwizard" and "xine-ui" are missing. But Adept says xine-ui is installed alread. And with sudo apt-get source pluto-avwizard, I can't find this package. Wtf? And even though the installer can't find it, too, he retries all the time. I also wish the installer would work correctly. The repositories that come in the ISO are completely out of date and useless. The forums give an updated /etc/apt/sources.list file that works, but why haven't they integrated that file yet?? This is a trivial change and no one has bothered to do it.

Cybernard: New page: Just tried the directions. I downloaded the stuff. The scripts downloaded a bunch of stuff. (Although there were so many some of them could have failed to download) Followed all the steps ...

Just tried the directions.
I downloaded the stuff.
The scripts downloaded a bunch of stuff.
(Although there were so many some of them could have failed to download)
Followed all the steps and after the reboot command all I got was the desktop.
