Chainsaw Man: Most Powerful Devils, Ranked As predicted last week, YoStar Pictures has seemingly saved the best fight animation for the end, as Arknights treated viewers to the first true battle of the season. It's the moment where the tower-defense influences truly dominate the screen in a way that feels huge, but also incredibly natural. When we left Rhodes Island , they were reeling from Misha having been kidnapped by Reunion, specifically Skullshatterer, an operative with a keen interest in Misha. This week, it's revealed that Skullshatterer's true name is Alex and that he and Misha are siblings, complicating an already complex situation for these characters as it approaches the endgame. RELATED: Arknights: Originium and Oripathy, Explained After several episodes of great character designs surrounded by faceless henchmen in white masks, it was surprising to see a random guard so full of character, greeting Misha. Ivan is set apart from other Reunion guards by a characteristically more damaged mask, but they're the nicest seeming member of the organization yet. And like any attempt to treat Reunion as a remotely sympathetic organization, Ivan quickly departs from the screen. Misha and Alex bond in this episode - or more accurately, Alex tries to "Kylo Ren" her into believing Reunion's cause, meaning they try to give off Darth Vader vibes but come off as a child because they are one. Alex tries to justify Reunion's crimes as an "eye for an eye" and doesn't really offer anything new to the debate to try and sway Misha. The only thing warming her up to him is the relief to know that her brother is still alive, which is acted very effectively. They even bond a bit at a shooting range, where there's a warmth between them that is comfortable, if fleeting. This part of the episode brought up way more questions than anticipated this late into a fairly straightforward series. Misha tries to counter Alex's gripes about Rhodes Island by saying that they don't kill , which just seems unlikely in the grand scheme of things. At first, maybe it's believable considering that Ace's team mostly used melee weapons and nonlethal grenades. However, Rhodes Island's allies most certainly kill, often in the presence of - and under the command of - Rhodes Island. Exusiai uses a full-auto SMG, Liskarm uses a pistol, several characters use swords, and all of them clearly kill members of Reunion in combat or self-defense. Unless this series is operating on Sengoku Basara logic where no one really dies until the plot deems it necessary, it feels contradictory. Then there is the scene at the firing range, where Alex teaches Misha that she can detonate the shells from the grenade launcher with Arts. Does this imply that bullets are filled with Originium and that therefore they aren't effective unless in the hands of an Arts user? Furthermore, does that mean that (magic) bullets can be non-lethal, thus explaining the apparent pacifism? Regardless, the series seems to imply that Rhodes Island themselves don't kill but that their allies do, which wouldn't be too much of a reach if the Doctor wasn't literally commanding them. By the end of the episode, the established pacifism isn't the problem; it's the contrived reactions when Rhodes Island does kill. The battle of this episode was well constructed and featured lots of short but sweet engagements between the allies and Reunion's versatile onslaught of soldiers that were a pleasant mix-up. The animation puts the characters in focus a lot more and the choreography and camera work were at their best of the whole season. Just as the first episodes constructed mobile-game-esque encounters within the story in a dietetic fashion, Episode 8 did the same thing but on a much larger scale. It's a smart approach to adaptation, but it also very powerfully reminds the viewer that the season is almost over and the Doctor has not been explored in the slightest. Understandably, the protagonists of these mobile game adaptations are a bit weak because they are typically player stand-ins. However, even a guy like Fujimaru Ritsuka from Fate/Grand Order feels a lot more alive than the Doctor from Arknights . Earlier episodes made it seem like there was more to be discovered about their backstory, but fast-forward to now and a lot of those implications have been completely forgotten. It's especially noticeable because the dramatic crux of this episode hinges on the enemy specifically targeting the Doctor. And when that happens, Amiya, the pacifist leader of Rhodes Island, desperately reaches out only to tap into her hidden powers. What results is her killing Alex, much to the dismay of Misha. And if it was just Amiya realizing that she killed them or Misha being sad that her brother died, that would be one thing. But the conclusion implies that Misha feels betrayed by Amiya, which in context, makes Misha look incredibly stupid, considering Alex was about to suicide bomb the Doctor. This episode, in several ways, was a redemption for the animation and direction of this series, but it was also a reminder of the drawbacks of this story and its characters. With one episode remaining, it's hard to imagine the show rising above its flaws, but perhaps it can still surprise with its storytelling like it did this week with its animation. Chainsaw Man: Most Powerful Devils, Ranked The final episode of Arknights: Prelude to Dawn isn't quite the colossal battle that some fans might have expected, nor does its dialog bring things to a satisfying conclusion by the end. It's very much the end of the beginning, and there should be a lot to pique interest for what comes next, but there really isn't. Last week was a reckoning for the cast as the ethics of Rhodes Island and Reunion weren't so much dissected as they were shared and attacked loudly and broadly. It was the culmination of a dilemma that has progressively been approached with less and less nuance, leading to a cliffhanger that felt contrived. RELATED: Arknights: Originium and Oripathy, Explained With the death of Alex, AKA Skullshatterer, Amiya has broken a rule that - given the inconsistent direction of Arknights ' action - didn't seem like a hard and fast rule. Amiya has killed someone, despite her assertion that Rhodes Island didn't need to kill to accomplish its goal, and it has driven a wedge between her and Misha, whom she hoped to protect. Misha's reaction to Alex's death seemed at first - as stated above - contrived because she could plainly see what Alex was about to do. He was going to die no matter what and Amiya had no choice but to intervene. Perhaps with more control, Amiya could have disarmed Alex without killing him, but for what it's worth, it was a necessary outcome. The season finale does address that Misha isn't exactly oblivious to this fact and paints her distrust of Amiya as less of a full turn to evil and more of a mental breakdown. She's spent her entire life viewing Reunion as an enemy but also feels guilty about not being there for her brother. Through intense grief, she looks at the aggression of Reunion as a way to atone for what she sees as the greatest sin: her willful ignorance of the plight of the infected. With some time to ruminate on her feelings, it's not quite as contrived a conflict as first believed and her actions, while not the most logical, are understandable. To Arknights ' credit, it certainly raises questions about the morality of the conflict (should one care to ask them), and there are a few ways to look at the dilemma. From the get-go, Rhodes Island might not have killed, but they worked side by side with people that have no qualms about killing. Is Amiya's use of lethal force truly a betrayal or a sign that she was already complicit in death? Furthermore, is killing something that is ultimately necessary for this war? And, is that just a harsh lesson or a hypothesis for Amiya to disprove ? This series seems to have been directed in such a way as to appeal to a wide audience, likely younger as well, [https://Habitatetc.com/ Habitatetc.com] hence a noticeable amount of censorship, and a lack of blood. It's what makes it hard to tell if certain characters die for real. However, it's appreciated that the finale seemed to address this confusion head-on by acknowledging that the LGD is killing when they feel they need to. Ch'en has been a particularly aggressive character to Rhodes Island despite consistently being an ally. While Amiya's ideals demand that she doesn't kill to preserve a vision of unity, Ch'en is portrayed as more of a realist who has already drawn battle lines and sees Reunion as an aggressor . Contrary to her introduction, she's also revealed to have been much kinder to the orphans and those "below her" than many might have assumed during her introduction. So for Ch'en to be the one to kill Misha in a moment of Amiya's hesitation was quite a bold choice, one that not even Ch'en could comfortably make. By the end of the episode, the battle has never truly taken center stage, nor has the action truly served as a vehicle for the drama. It has all centered around these character moments that have been built upon a shaky foundation . There is some depth, but dive in, and viewers might wonder if the swim is worth the quality of the water. Throughout the whole series, Arknights: Prelude to Dawn has looked good and on occasion truly ensnared with its world and the promise of exploring it. But the finale stands as a reminder of all the ways the series failed to build up to it properly. And even then, the closing collage of imagery hints at more on the horizon, but all it does is remind the viewer of what they wished the series offered instead. Chainsaw Man: Most Powerful Devils, Ranked The following contains spoilers for Episode 5 of Arknights: Prelude to Dawn, "Farewell" now streaming on Crunchyroll . After a rocky fifth episode, Arknights shows its strengths once again in an action-packed episode that's building to a grand finale, but where those strengths lie is a bit peculiar. It's become apparent this late into the season that Prelude to Dawn isn't a great action series, something that honestly should have been clear from the early episodes. Last week, Amiya had to get Misha to safety all while trying to convince her that they weren't trying to lie to her or betray her by putting her in police custody. Considering the fifth episode's dip in quality and Episode 6 more or less returning to the status quo, it honestly feels like the last episode could have been written out entirely or abridged within the start of this one. All that truly impacted the story going forward was learning that Misha has Oripathy and needs medical treatment and that the masked pursuer has some connection to her. Everything else was brief introductions to characters like Exusiai and Texas, which again were brief enough that they would have fit in this episode's beginning with some trimming of the fat. RELATED: Arknights: Originium and Oripathy, Explained The titular "farewell" of this episode is a brief one from Amiya to Misha, promising to bring her to Rhodes Island and give her treatment. It was surprising to see Ch'en so cooperative in promising to arrange a transfer to Rhodes Island, considering she's been a secretive, somewhat aggressive figure in opposition to Amiya. Perhaps it was just the story's design, to set up this authoritative cop character to turn out to be kinder under the surface. Misha reveals that she's heard of Ch'en's good deeds in helping the orphans and infected in the slums, which is presented as a moment to see her in a different light. It's certainly a more flattering depiction, but also where the story starts getting a bit hazy with its messages. Arknights creates a fictitious and supernatural political story that seems to draw upon real-world influences but places its characters in a very neutral position. In that sense, it seems very centrist in its position on these topics, wanting to explore both sides. It's an understandable approach when dealing with a cast of such marketable characters: who wants their waifu to be a bigot? But centrism can also conflate two sides with both sides being equally valid/invalid, which in the case of oppression, can be more than a little hazy. When Amiya and her gang are cornered by yet another group of Reunion troops blocking their path in hilariously large numbers, Amiya lashes out in a way that feels dismissive of the plight of the characters. Reunion has consistently been shown to be antagonists, with the Ursus Empire really not having a suitable character representing their will and the bigotry they have perpetuated. So the only villains thus far are the victims of bigotry who have simply become corrupted by hatred. It's another case of "I see why you're doing it, but I can't support how you're doing it." Rhodes Island's solution seems to be creating an independent and supportive community dedicated to helping everyone. They collaborate with problematic governments while maintaining their independence, all in the hope of paying it forward as it were. It's an inoffensive and valid portrayal of how to respond to a world that is hateful, but Amiya's attitude towards Reunion seems to betray her previous temperament. "You were the first to hate. You hurt the first innocent. You threw the first stone. Back in Chernobog, it was all you." The line about Chernobog implies that this entire rant stems squarely from the Chernobog incident, but it completely dismisses the reasons that Reunion got violent in the first place. And even with the context about Chernobog, suggesting that the victims of prejudice were the first to hate just seems stupid within the larger context of the series. As mentioned previously, Arknights , despite having the look and attitude of an action series, is not a particularly great action series. It has an impeccable atmosphere and art design, and a voice cast that is extremely talented, but the story and characters are more interesting than the action that theoretically should be drawing eyes to this series. There are moments of nice-looking choreography , but most of the magic of this show comes down to clever directing and the team working with what they have. A lot of action happens when the characters aren't on-screen. A character gets kicked into view more often than audiences see the kick. The opening of the show has more impressive sakuga than the entirety of the show thus far and for those who have been intrigued and have considered giving the show a watch, that might be a dealbreaker. There's still a chance that the conclusion might pull out all the stops, but that kind of hope has been crushed by similarly promising shows in the past. We'll just have to wait and see. Arknights: Best Base Skills

2025-10-09T15:42:54Z

JennyWoolley7:

While Arknights at first glance seems like a mere tower defense game, the tactical anime RPG is much more complex than players realize. At its core, Arknights have players take on the role of the amnesiac Doctor who, with the help of Operators, takes command of Rhodes Island as they try to find a cure for a disease known as Oripathy while defending themselves from various threats. RELATED: Genshin Impact: Other Games With Insane Gacha Features Throughout the game, players take Operators on various missions in the RPG where they dish out special skills and attacks to take care of threats. However, players also have to ensure their Base - the Rhodes Island Infrastructure Complex - is well taken care of. Thankfully, Operators also bring their fair share of Base Skills to improve the many qualities of life in the Base. However, just which Operators work best to improve the Base’s functions? Despite toting a large shuriken along her person, ShiraYuki is a dependable Sniper that is capable of slowing down enemies while dealing much-needed Arts damage to them. As a unit, she offers large AOE capabilities, allowing her to hit opponents that other units don’t ordinarily touch - useful to eliminate threats before they even harm the player’s strategy in Arknights gameplay . When assigned to the Factory, ShiraYuki provides a 30-percent boost to Battle Records (EXP). This easily makes ShiraYuki’s the second-best buff for the Factory. And in terms of gameplay alone, her mixed toolkit of AOE/DOT makes her a worthwhile asset to develop anyway. Although seemingly too young to become an Operator, it’s Purestream and her dedication that gave her hometown a source of cleaning water when other researchers have given up. This dedication earned Purestream a spot in Rhode Island, and her burst heal is one of the strongest offered in the game. On top of that, Purestream in gameplay is one of the best providers of the Status Resistance buffs, making this AOE Medic a useful unit regardless of the position. Despite her status as a lower-star character in the tower defense game, Purestream’s buffs are rather enormous: assigning Purestream to a Factory will give every Trading Post get a 20-percent boost in Productivity whenever they do tasks related to the Precious Metal formula. This makes Purestream a nifty asset, especially when most players run at least two (2) Trading Posts anyway, allowing her to give a whopping 40-percent bonus. An aromatherapy enthusiast, Perfumer uses her skills of the trade to provide some of the best healing in the tower defense game . Players consider her one of the rarest sources of global healing in the RPG, which ties well with the fact that she’s one of the most commonly-obtained AOE Medics. She can heal up to three (3) friendlies at once and even gives passive HP regen to all other Operators upon her deployment. At its core, Perfumer assigned to the Base gives a 25-percent boost to the Factory. This in itself is extremely useful, especially in the early game where players don’t have as many Operators to shuffle for Base assignments. And even then, Perfumer herself is a nifty Medic with AOE capabilities that make her work well with others in larger maps that can quickly deplete the HP of her teammates if players aren’t extremely careful. Medical student Sussurro became infected with Oripathy after helping patients through volunteer work, and she remains steadfast in her mission to protect the less fortunate. This is reflected in her capabilities as one of the strongest ST Healers in the turn-based game, especially for her boosted heals towards Operators who cost less than 10 DP, making her an ideal protector for most units. RELATED: Best RPG Games Based On Anime Sussurro’s buffs in the Base are straightforward enough: she gives an 80-percent boost in byproducts created when processing elite material. This immediately makes her the provider of one of the best elite material byproducts with the least investment in terms of resources. However, this increase is rather RNG-dependent, meaning it’s mostly worthwhile if players create the byproducts of rather expensive materials. Even then, if players don’t get the kind of output they’re looking for, then this bonus won’t mean as much. Either way, Sussurro is still useful in core gameplay as a dependable Medic, especially for newcomers. It makes sense for enemies to feel scared of Shamare and her glare as she’s a rather deadly finisher. In fact, enemies within her reach that have 40-percent or less HP get the Fragile effect - a good skill to pair with her Skills that provide AOE Defense and Attack reductions. Not to mention, her naturally-high RES and HP allow her to tank otherwise-stronger Caster enemies, making Shamare a nifty mage killer like Fate/Zero ’s Emiya Kiritsugu but in the turn-based game. Her Base buffs can seem rather peculiar, especially since she reduces the Trading Post boosts of her partners to 0 but gains 45-percent for each of them. This potentially allows Shamare to give the Trading Post up to 90-percent Efficiency, even though players don’t have three (3) 30-percent boosters. Another interesting setup here would be pairing Shamare with other Operators that give bonuses other than Efficiency, such as Output Quality (from Bibeak) or even Morale (Steward, Rope), ensuring her partners still have some use in their assignment. Shamare’s usefulness is paired well with her potential as a specialized Operator in gameplay, especially for players who already appreciate her Aside from being a play on the "waifu" term, Waai Fu is no one to underestimate - especially in the context of her innate abilities. This transfer student has incredible combat prowess, characterized in the game by her quick redeployment time as well as her attacks building up to knock down foes. This allows Waai Fu to become a great asset in fights in Arknights , especially since her long-lasting AOE Silence and decent AOE damage can help her eliminate mobs quickly and ensure they don’t become as annoying as Elden Ring ’s enemies . At its core, Waai Fu can give a 40-percent to Factory production provided other Operators in the Factory also provide at least a 40-percent buff. This is courtesy to her buff giving a 5-percent boost for every 5-percent bonuses the other Operators provide in the Factory. While this makes her an extremely Operator-dependent Base companion, Waai Fu is also useful in gameplay as a Fast-Redeploy Specialist due to her stat-independent performance. This means players already enjoying using her won’t see any harm in assigning her to the Factory - especially for those planning on reaping Production performance in the long-term anyway. Despite her meek appearance, Eyjafjalla is a natural disaster expert - which translates to the game as one of the most potent single-target killers in the strategy game. Her high SP upon deployment allows her to dish out attacks much faster, making her a decent DPS. Meanwhile, Provence is a relief worker that can rake up immense ATK buffs that make her an excellent physical damage assassin, allowing her to become a great pair for Eyja’s toolkit. RELATED: Best RPGs With [https://Habitatetc.com/ anime games crafting guide] Visuals A straightforward provider for a Base buff, assigning Eyjafjalla to the RIIC gives a 45-percent boost to the HR Office. Unlike other buffs, this boost from Eyjafjalla is the best one available for the HR Office, tied only to the E2 Skill of Provence. Players who want a cheaper Operator who can provide the same benefit can rely on Provence, who in herself is a reliable nuker in the core gameplay. While Exusiai at first glance looks like a guardian angel, she’s one of the most potent DPS in the strategy game tailored especially to kill air units and low-DEF opponents. This makes her a great teammate to swordmaster Texas who already is an excellent source for decent AOE damage and crowd control options, similar to Sucrose of Genshin Impact . Lastly, Lappland as a debuffer makes her an excellent way of debilitating the opponent’s performance with her stuns and special ability stoppers. Compared to other Operators, Exusiai offers a rather straightforward boost for the Base: a 35-percent buff in the Trading Post. Players who want to maximize their Trading Post output should pair Exusiai with Texas and Lappland. In the case of Vanguard Texas, having Exusiai in the Trading Post will further decrease Morale consumed by -.3 for [https://Habitatetc.com/ AnimeGameVerse Blog] every hour, which can be a big deal in the long term. Lastly, assigning Lappland to the same Trading Post as Texas will give a +2 to Order Limit and reduce Morale consumed every hour by 0.1. Touting enough guns to support a small army, Ceobe is without a doubt one of the most optimal crowd control options in the tower defense game. Her appearance also fits her toolkit, being able to dish out a variety of damage and effects depending on the situation. Meanwhile, while Vermeil lost both her village and her arm, she’s a skilled tracker that can take down air units and multiple targets with ease, making her a decent long-ranged video game assassin . At its core, assigning Ceobe to the Base will give the Factory a 20-percent boost to productivity throughout its first hour and then give another 1-percent boost per hour after, up to 25-percent. Not only that, but her E0 Base Skill gives +8 Capacity Limit to the Factory while reducing Morale costs. This in itself is extremely impressive in the context of item production, but this becomes overkill when paired with Vermeil as her Base Skill gives a 2-percent Productivity boost for every +1 boost in Capacity Limit. When maxed out, Ceobe + Vermeil can give the Factory a whopping 41-percent Productivity boost. Of all units in Arknights , Blemishine has one of the most sophisticated appearances out there. With an armored look resembling a valkyrie , Blemishine is one of the most competent protectors any battlefield could ask for. She’s one of the best all-rounders players could ask for, with both adaptable utility and even some decent healing abilities that any team could use in case of emergencies. When assigned to the Base, Blemishine boosts the rate of byproduct production by as much as 40-percent. Not only that, recipes that cost 8 Morale only get half the Morale production with her in the field. Her E0 Base Skill that practically removes crafting costs immediately places Blemishine at the top of the ladder for creating T2 and T3 materials, with her E2 Skill boosting this further.
