Change the 'icon_dir_mythtv' setting as follows.

there's a section on database, 'password=mythtv' which needs altering to whatever is listed in your mythtv frontend setup > general

Follow the prompts to match up the channels with logos.

== Bit About Me ==

I'm 29, and have been working in the IT industry for the past 12 years, in various guises. I started out as a system builder for a local IT Firm, which later became insolvent, and I was made redundant, I've worked in Tech Support, 1st and 2nd Line. Currently I do webhosting for Friends and Family. I've been involved in and now run a fairly successful community, which utilises ''vBulletin'' as it's main core, with other additions from ''vBulletin.org'' and also some of my own customisations.

== My Kit ==

At present, I'm still looking into building up an LMCE system. There's currently quite a bit of old hardware that's been decommissioned around the place. Originally, the system used to run as a domain with 2 win2k3 servers, one functioning as the Global Catalogue Server and the other as an Exchange 2k3 Server, with 5 PC's joined to it for use by anyone (roaming profiles, for both house members, and guests - great for central backups). 3 years ago, I changed my main PC over to OpenSuse Linux, and since then, the other machines have been upgraded, and disjoined from the domain, with the 2 Compaq servers being obsoleted in the corner of the room. Initially I was going to port the domain environment over to Linux, but have since decided against that as the old Compaq's seem to draw an awful lot of power for what they're actually doing. There's also 3 laptops, 2 of which are fairly obsolete by todays standards, though may find a use for them later.

== LMCE and my plans ==

I hope to have a system setup for LMCE in the very near future, it may even become my desktop, as currently it barely gets used, and would be great to use as a test bed. The initial proposal is for it to store all of the media, so it will be stored centrally, but accessible in any room in the house. At somepoint, I will be looking to make use of the telephony system, I've used Asterisk in the past, so hopefully it will be fairly straight forward, though I'll be double checking things before I do delve into it.

Later on, I'll be looking at the home automation side of LMCE, using it to control the lights, and other utilities around the house. At the moment, the house is rented, so I'm not looking to make too many changes which I'll later have to undo should I actually take the plunge and buy a house. I first looked into LMCE when I got the home automation bug and looked into X10 when the Gadget show did a take on it, the possibilities I thought, were endless. After looking at Pluto, I wanted the Pluto Core (must have gadget lol!).

I'll try to keep this page updated as I go through my travels with putting all the theory into action.

There are many problems with the site.

1) It has been written in terrible English -- misspelled words abound and proper grammar is nearly non-existent. For example, "survailance" should be "surveillance". (A simple dictionary goes a long way.)

2) Only a small portion of the program is actually documented.

3) The changes in the program are not documented and "legacy" instructions are left on the page.

4) There is a lot of "fluff" in the documentation that is meaningless. You can't write "the program can do this and this and this!!!" when only one person has ever been able to do it. Hyperbole misleads the users.

Still, the Wiki is evolving in the right direction, slowly.

If the intent is to correct the main page, then you should get some help from the contributors to the Wiki.

I worked documenting code for an American defense contractor -- the problems with LinuxMCE documentation are not unique. Most programmers are terrible at documentation.

If you want good documentation, you must have a dedicated documenter and one programmer to whom the documenter can ask questions.

I'd also be into writing the "sales pitch" and "What is LinuxMCE" docs for the non-techie. So who has write access to that page? From a personal viewpoint, the wiki looks a little stale, and uninviting towards new users. It could be argued that the software speaks for itself, though, I feel that it's possibly missing a vast amount of the audience that it could potentially hit. I'm a little more technical than most, but not as technical as some, and I have issues looking around the various parts of the site. One of the biggest selling points of the software itself, is that it's all integrated. I know that's what I love about the project, it brings many areas, such as media, home automation and security into one place, but the site it runs from, speaks differently. The wiki doesn't really integrate with any of the other areas of LMCE save for direct links.

It's a shame that there isn't a little more integration between both forums and wiki. I like the idea of the things that have been proposed above, and would be willing to offer some time to help implement them if needed / wanted.

I think it would provide for better usability over all of the areas that are LMCE, rather than them looking separate and distinctly isolated. And if the same integration followed through for the site and it's subsections, it would appeal to a greater audience in the same way the software itself does. Having been a Linux use for the last 3 years or so, it was a very steep learning curve, at least for me (epsecially when having to rebuild nvidia drivers each time the kernel is updated).
