There are 3 UI options.  UI1 is the most basic, and runs on all video cards.  UI2 with masking (medium) requires video cards with decent OpenGL and XDamage.  UI2 with alpha blending is the best.  Functionally it is the same as UI2 with masking, and has the same 3d effects, but instead of blocking out the video behind the UI, it is able to blend the video and the UI together.  This requires support for the composite extensions.  Currently only nVidia 6xxx and greater have Linux drivers with composite support to handle UI2 with alpha blending.

Screenshots: Using Linux MCE

There are 3 UI options. UI1 is the most basic, and runs on all video cards. UI2 with masking (medium) requires video cards with decent OpenGL and XDamage. UI2 with alpha blending is the best. Functionally it is the same as UI2 with masking, and has the same 3d effects, but instead of blocking out the video behind the UI, it is able to blend the video and the UI together. This requires support for the composite extensions. Currently only nVidia 6xxx and greater have Linux drivers with composite support to handle UI2 with alpha blending.
