Usage Information |
The Pulse-Eight HDMI-CEC adaptor (Pulse-Eight Adaptor) permits a connected device to send and receive HDMI-CEC control commands on the HDMI bus. The Pulse-Eight can be installed for use with LinuxMCE. These instructions also work for other libcec compatible HDMI-CEC adaptors such as the one built into the Raspberry Pi. LinuxMCE can control all compatible connected devices. Please note: For HDMI-CEC volume control you must have a connected Television and A/V Receiver that are HDMI-CEC compatible. HDMI-CEC cannot control the volume of your television alone.
Setup Steps for HDMI-CEC Control
- Your standard TV-remote can be used to control LMCE and LMCE can control your A/V equipment.
- HDMI-CEC from LinuxMCE is under active development.
- Currently the user must perform some manual steps to complete HDMI-CEC configuration.
- The following devices should be automatically installed on a Raspberry Pi but must be installed manually on other Media Directors (for now):
- CEC Adaptor (DT#2284) as a child of your Media Director or Core
- CEC Embedded Transmit (DT#2303) as a child to the CEC Adaptor
- HDMI-CEC Remote (DT#2285) as a child to your Media Director or Core
- If you are using a Media Director you will have to reload your router and select the appropriate COM port the Pulse-Eight device is on in the webadmin. This step is not required on the Raspberry Pi.

If you want LMCE to be able to control your A/V equipment you can install child devices to your CEC Embedded Transmit device
- Generic HDMI-CEC TV (#2304) to control your CEC enabled tv.
- Generic HDMI-CEC Player (DT#2305) to control your CEC enabled CD/DVD/Blu-Ray players.
- Generic HDMI-CEC Audio (AVR) (DT#2306) to control your CEC enabled A/V Receiver.
- PS3/4 (HDMI-CEC) (DT#2309) to control a Playstation 3 or Playstation 4 game system.
The Setup-Wizard may appear on-screen when adding one of the above devices
- Setup connections according to your actual device connections.
- Check Webadmin -> Devices -> A/V Equipment -> Connection Wizard and ensure the pipes are set correctly.
You MUST set the hdmi physical address for some devices manually to avoid detection errors (CEC_Adaptor, TV, AVR).
- In the device data section set the physical address in the Port/Channel entry.
- The television is always '0000'. A device connected to the first input of the TV is address '1000', the second input is '2000'.
- For devices connected below an AVR the AVR is connected to an input on the TV and the next digit of the address describes the input of the AVR that your device is connected to. So with an AVR on input 3 or the television and a Blu-Ray player on input 2 of the AVR the Blu-Ray player's address is '3200'.
