My experience with 710
After doing days of research on whether or not the specific hardware I had would work with linuxmce I took the plunge and installed 710 Installation went fine after I finally found a DVD drive that would read the entire disc and not produce I/O errors
Once installed everything went hunky dory and worked "out-of-box" so to speak. That is until I got to the TV Tuner, I have an Asus U3100 mini USB Tuner and was aware of the risks as it wasn't already supported my linuxmce 710 or any ubuntu pre 8.10 for that matter. I spent the next 6 hours installing v4l-dvb, hunting down the firmware then finding it was the wrong version so it wouldn't work anyway until I found the one it wanted.
I now had TV and was a happy camper.
Everything else was reasonably simple, I added some Diskless MD's and the process was 100% painless, added my movies with no problems until Amazon went down and I had to install the IMDB patch
I recently got some RC6 IR Remotes and receivers which wouldn't work until I install lirc-0.8.5 but that wasn't too much of a hassle.
Overall I'm quite happy with 710 it did what I wanted it to do when I wanted it to do it.
My experience with 810
I wish I could say I had as much luck with 810 as I did with 710 but that would be a lie :P On the plus-side my TV Tuner was detected "out-of-box" as was everything else I have.
First problem I had was with Video on the core.. after the install I got defaulted to UI1 on 640x480 and couldn't change it, AVWizard simply wouldn't start regardless of what I tried (Button just rebooted the system without loading the wizard, holding shift made all the correct beeps but still no wizard, running it manually from terminal gave me a blank screen) I then decided to install 185 nVidia drivers hoping maybe I would get somewhere with that and I was right, once the drivers installed correctly I was able to access the AVWizard (But only by running it manually from terminal, button on orbiter and shift key still don't do anything but as long as it worked I didn't care)
My remotes has the same problem as 710 (Had to update to lirc-0.8.5 (currently comes with 0.8.3)
Probelm I have now is that the remotes only work in the linuxmce menus. I can only control MythTV using the keyboard and mouse.
