If you want to use VDR in North America, and/or with settop boxes, you can. Manually.

The following debs are available and might provide what you need:

  • vdr-plugin-atscepg - VDR-plugin for ATSC EPG
  • vdr-plugin-pvrinput - VDR plugin allowing to use a Hauppauge PVR card as input device
  • vdr-plugin-hdhomerun - This VDR plugin adds support for the HDHomeRun networked ATSC/QAM tuner

as well as the regular stuff that gets installed when you select VDR as your PVR in the Sarah wizard.

To get EPG data from SchedulesDirect into VDR, you might able to use the PUTE command from VDR, and/or the vdr addon xml2epg
