Debugging serial Port (Com port/RS-232)
You can use minicom (apt-get install minicom)
# minicom
then press ctcl-a z to open the help interface
select 'o'
goto 'Serial port setup'
Set the Serial device to the port you want to test In my case I also had to set:
- Bps/Par/Bits: 9600 8N1 - Hardware Flow Control : No
Exit this screen and then select:
- 'Save setup as dfl'
(this makes this configuration default next time you start minicom)
Exit this screen
then reinitialize the modem (m)
you should enable local echo so you can see what you type.
- ctrl-a e
When you type the command the device should respond.
