Pros & Cons
Pros: HDMI , Firewire, Gigabit Lan
Cons: Spdif to close to HDMI. Could not connect monster cable spdif at same time as HDMI. Although you can usually trim back the sides of both connectors with a sharp knife to make them fit nicely! Start with the SPDIF as this has lots of "dead" plastic on the sides, whereas if you cut too deeply into the HDMI connector you will cut through the shield metal.
User Impressions
Testing results: Connected 17 lcd monitor
1. PXE boot as MD (enable boot rom in bios -set boot order)
Observations:
Quick detection of dhcp Ran Diskless Install under 20 mins (went for sandwich not sure exactly how long it took) Wizard came up, it went crazy when I moved the mouse. (Later found loose connection on kvm switch). Thought mouse problem might be related to video driver so I installed envy to install latest nvidia drivers again (Later found loose connection on kvm switch). So I may not have needed to install envy and the latest drivers.
2. Fixed mouse and ran wizard set video to vga 1024 x768 ui2 w/- alpha blending with transparancies.
Observations:
Flashing when using menus and some tearing during video playback.
3. Ran AV wizard set video to vga 1024 x768 ui2 overlay only.
Observations:
No more flashing on menus no tearing during video play back.
Testing
Testing results:
Connected Sony Vega 720P 34" TV using HDMI
Identical to VGA test
UI2 w/- alpha blending flashing,tearing
UI2 w/- overlay only - Seems fine.
Watched about twenty mins of HD NBC from my HD Home Run - looked great.
Unfortunately cant test 1080P for I missed out on the black friday special on the 1299 cc 46"Sharp aquos
Will do more testing as Core/ Hybrid when I get a chance.
1080p are known to work with 2 GB of RAM and 5600+ CPU.
1080p will run, sporting events were jittery (dropped frames I believe). I then reverted back to 720p and smooth as silk.
