Quick install DVD for 07.10
This installs both the Kubuntu OS and LinuxMCE at the same time, in about 20 minutes and with only 3 keystrokes.  You pick the hard drive onto which you want LinuxMCE to be installed, and the installer will partition it, format it, and install everything with default options. It will even set your location and regional settings using an IP2Location service.  The DVD installer copies a pre-configured image to your hard drive.  It is therefore fast and easy, but there is little control over the installation process. Note: The DVD installer erases all existing data from the selected hard drive.  The DVD Installation page contains a walkthrough of this installer.

The LinuxMCE CD installer comes on 2 CDs. It requires that the Kubuntu OS be installed first, using the Kubuntu Desktop Live CD (or using the alternate site for the Kubuntu Desktop Live CD). LinuxMCE is then installed on top of Kubuntu. The CD installer should only be installed on a Kubuntu installation that has not already been upgraded, since the LinuxMCE installer updates both the Kubuntu and LinuxMCE configuration files in parallel.
+
The latest snapshot DVDs are also available. Before using them, be sure to check out the Snapshot overview, and follow the steps laid out on the installation page.

The CD installer gives you a lot more installation options.  It takes about an hour or so to install, since everything is stored in .deb packages which must be decompressed and installed.  The Installation Guide explains how to use the CD installer.

This section provides instructions for downloads.

What version to choose?

The current preferred installation candidate is LinuxMCE 1404.
While the current preferred installation candidate is still being worked on and may have some known issues, it generally works better with newer hardware and works at least as well as previous versions. The versions older than LinuxMCE 1404 are stable but no longer under development.

The latest version under development is LimuxMCE 1604, and the up to date snapshot DVDs are linked in the download locations.

md5 checksums

It is a good idea to use md5sum and the checksums to verify your download is not corrupted. Since this wiki page is editable we can not keep the md5sums here without the risk of tampering. Please use the one posted next to the download you choose.

Download locations

Please use the Bit Torrent downloads wherever possible, to ensure a clean, uncorrupted download, and then leave it seeding as long as possible. The source code and all the files necessary to install LinuxMCE are available for download on various mirrors.

Download for the LinuxMCE 1404 install is available on the LinuxMCE site. You can download now by clicking here.

The latest releases are always available under the IPTP Release directory. Notes for LinuxMCE Releases can be found here.
The latest snapshot DVDs are also available. Before using them, be sure to check out the Snapshot overview, and follow the steps laid out on the installation page.

Source code

Instructions on getting the source code and compiling it are located on Building From Source page.

Burning

Always burn the DVDs at the slowest possible speed your drive supports ... this is critical! Faster speeds regularly cause corruptions on the burn which will be fatal to your install.

Feedback

Please indicate on the forums if the installation went well so we know what needs fixing.
