About Me

I'm vuko2918 (@Forum: vuko) and live in Graz (Austria, Europe not Australia). I'm student of Software-Engineering & Economy @ Technical University Graz and work at a local Warehouse Automation System Company in the 2nd Level software support. I started using Debian about two years ago. At work we are using AIX as well SuSe Linux.

I started engaging myself with home multimedia when i was about 8 years and got my first own HiFi-system. Since then i tried to build cheap Multiroom systems through with Speaker Switches and lot of Speaker-Cables. When I ot my first PC i started to build a homenetwork and so the two interest mixed.

LinuxMCE and me

I've seen the Video LinuxMCE vs winMCE some time ago but never really made any steps into LinuxMCE. When i saw the new video i decided to try to setup a VirtualBox with LinuxMCE. I Could get through the setup and get the basic UI working, but without any devices i hadn't any fun on using it. So i decided to get myself a core to make my real first steps in LinuxMCE.

Next Steps

  • get the onboard NIC working
  • configure Core
  • setup a MD in VirtualBox

Configuration

Core

Until now I'm not really sure whether I use it as Core or as Hybrid.

Components:

CPU

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 65nm Sockel-AM2 tray, 2x 2.30GHz, 2x 512kB Cache

MOTHERBOARD

Elitegroup GF8100VM-M3, GeForce 8100 (dual PC2-8500U DDR2)

  • µATX
  • 4x DDR2 Slot
  • onboard GF 8100 up to 512MB shared Ram
  • onboard 5.1 Audio
  • 1x Gigabit LAN
  • 1x PCI-E 16x
  • 2x PCI-E 1x
  • 1x PCI

RAM

2GB Aeneon CL5

STORAGE

Samsung 320 GB

PSU

LC-Power 550W Silent Giant, Green Power 2.2

CASE

for now: a old noname-case

OTHER

CPU-FAN: Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 GT (Sockel 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+)
