Pluto is the name of the company that created the PlutoHome distribution. PlutoHome, sometimes referred to as Pluto, was the original name of the system used for home automation for such devices as lighting, door locks and heating/cooling control. A short video presentaton of PlutoHome is archived here.
PlutoHome was open sourced in 2007 to become LinuxMCE. Since then, LinuxMCE has grown to become the multi-protocol home automation and integration system it is today.

PlutoHome is available here, and you can get information on the company that created the distribution here.
