I already had plans to replace the old, pained toggle switches with rockers in my house. Same with outlets. I'm going to try using INSTEON for lighting and other automation. I will buy a few items in advance of the LMCE install to see how they work. If they're acceptable, I can buy them bit-by-bit until I've replaced the whole house. If not, I'll either limit them to the main things I want LMCE to control, or find some other alternative like Z-Wave lighting control.
INSTEON Switch Differences
- "Relay" = switch only
- "Dimmer" = duh
- ICON
- $11 cheaper
- Lower wattage (300W dimmer or 10A/400W switch)
- Fewer INSTEON links (30 vs. 417)
- SwitchLinc
- $46
- 600W dimmer or 15A/480W switch
- ToggleLinc
- Same as SwitchLinc, but toggle switch, not rocker
